After a short yet long week, we've made it to the weekend! I wanted to take a moment since its summer, its sunny and hot and remind everyone that you should wear sunscreen always and to get a yearly skin check by the dermatologist. I know, I sound like some weird radio PSA, but having had melanoma and general tragedy related to melanoma in my life, I am a champion for advocating getting your skin checked out. I went yesterday to make sure all the moles were in tip top shape and I really hope you do the same. Its easy, painless and takes about 5 minutes!
{Ok, stepping down from soapbox}
There are some great reads this week that you should check out:
Found a vendor you love and want to work with? Read this to ensure you get a contract signed right away!
As if you needed more reasons to hire a wedding planner!
When pulling together your wedding day timeline - here are some great reasons as to why you should do photo's before the ceremony.
The Illegal Wedding Fair is here this weekend, stop by and check it out!
And lastly, if you've ever seen The Lion King {on Broadway or in the movie} we all can recognize the opening 'african' scream ... Tsidii, the voice, is performing on June 22nd at City Winery - it should be a fabulous evening! 155 Varick St Soho at 7 30pm.
Happy Weekend-ing!

Fabulous Fridays: Lovely Events + Images
Since its a holiday weekend, I'll keep today's post light and sweet. I hope that everyone has a great 3 day weekend, wear lots of sunscreen, relax and have fun.
A couple weeks ago, I had the most incredible opportunity to help Cyd {The Sweetest Occasion} and Ami {Elizabeth Anne Designs} on a photoshoot down at Lovely {a new bridal store that really and truly is lovely}. Cyd and Ami did a kick a$$ job with the details and making a truly affordable tablescape, so be sure to check out the images here and here.
J.Crew opened their newly minted Bridal Store yesterday! There's a launch party on June 2nd ~ details below:

Fabulous Fridays: Educating Yourself
The weather here in NYC is finally beginning to act spring like which makes me beyond happy! The cold dreary days were reminding me of when I lived in London and while I love London, the weather was a bit depressive at times.
I had the opportunity to meet Kelli Parker, the genius behind A Deux Bridal - a bespoke stationery company up in Boston a few months ago and she's been writing an awesome series on custom invitations for weddings - its informative & educational and you have to check out Parts I, II and III immediately.
What lovely finds have you come across this week?

Fabulous Friday: Must Read Wedding Wisdom
We made it to Friday! Its been an incredible week, from meeting Sara Rue & Colin Cowie {we're on the same committee for a charity event in June} to making a committment to myself to stop putting everything first and me last and so I've started going back to the gym full time, to saying goodbye to a dear friend whose leaving NYC - its been a productive week!
Starting next week will be a new series on Consultations & Wedding Planner pricing - I hope you stop back to read my thoughts and comment as well!
To get you in the mood for pricing, check out these great posts on photographer pricing:
Melissa Jill, a talented photographer in Arizona wrote a great piece last week about why she doesn't discount pricing. Its insightful and I encourage you to read it.
Every Last Detail has a blunt but necessary post today on photography pricing expectations - sometimes you just have to keep it real.
The lovely Lisa Barr {@bridalease} has a fabulous series this week {1, 2 & 3}about Montreal, which really is a beautiful place & a great wedding destination!
And last but not least, Missy Photography posted images from a wedding we worked on last month - Congratulations Blair & Matt, you two really are the sweetest couple and I loved working with you both!

Week In Review: E-Shoot + News!
The amazingly talented Christopher Duggan of Threshold Visions is hosting another free engagement shoot on May 15th. Here are the details in Christopher's own words:

By popular demand, I will be hosting the 4th Annual FREE Engagement Day on Saturday May 15th right here in New York City’s Central Park.
Our Engagement Day is designed for the couple who is looking for the right photographer for their wedding.
Of course I provide my clients with timeless, emotion-filled photographs, caught-moments of shared love laughter and joy. I create for them inspiring images that tell their unique wedding-love story and a uniquely designed album showcasing their favorite images.
Equally important, they get from me a flawless wedding day experience in which I work with a sense of fun and efficiency. I am sensitive to the fact that they want to spend most of their time with their guests, their family and each other. I always blend in to the party, put their guests and family at ease and capture everyone looking their natural best.
Two essential things happen in the Engagement Day, you get to know me and I get to know you. Participating in our Engagement Day is the perfect way to both get to know how I work so you can choose the right photographer for your wedding and make great portraits of the two of you during one of the sweetest times of your relationship together.
“Two words come to mind when seeing our pictures…Exuberant Bliss! Christopher made us the center of the Universe that day.” – Kristine & Steve
Our Engagement Day begins with cocktails and a meet and greet with Christopher on Friday evening. Manhattan location to be announced soon.
Here’s what 10 couples will get on Saturday May 15th on location in Central Park:
– A 30 minute experience with me creating natural, lifestyle portraits of the two of you. It’s the perfect sampling of my signature style.
– Professional hair & make-up artist on site to help keep you looking fresh and camera ready.
– A chance to win a custom design Lovebook made of images from our Engagement Day
– Digital Negatives of images to use on Facebook, their wedding website or other on-line social media
“Christopher made the shoot completely enjoyable, relaxed and a good time. Our engagement pics capture the fun and warmth of our relationship.” – Mistina & Tony
Because of such limited space we can only accept couples who:
– are engaged
– are looking for the right wedding photographer

In order to be considered, please email me at studio@thresholdvisions.com including the following:

It's Friday! I hope that everyone has some lovely plans for the weekend ~ can you believe that April is half over already?
On May 1st, two friends of mine, Amanda and Meghan are launching a brand spanking new blog that is going to be simply fabulous. Mark your calendars for the 1st because its going to be a resource you don't want to miss. Its called The Wedding Boutique and its a collaborative blog:

Each blog is composed of 10 different wedding professionals within that city (with no more than two of each type of professional), who create and write their own content within in a community place. It gives brides and grooms the chance to learn from an array of vendors all in one place.
It'll be chalk full of great information from different vendors ~ what more could you want from a blog?
Make sure you check it out on May 1st!
PS: For those following along, the apartment drama continues, hoping to have some finality today!

Weekly Finds: Still Haven't Moved ...
Our mini break a week ago was so relaxing and refreshing. Mr. G turned a year older, I read more Chelsea Handler books than I should have in one sitting and came back to NYC after Easter refreshed and excited for the summer weather ... this weekend continues the search for a new apartment. We've got a jam packed schedule of hunting and we are now wondering if we should negotiate on a place we saw a few weeks ago ... the apartment itself is fantastic, but I am not so excited about the location - its 14 blocks exactly from where I grew up and my parents sometimes still live! May be a bit too close to home.
Anyways, there are some great reads for wedding advice this week:
Retailers getting into the bridal market - would you buy their dresses?
Brooklyn Bride is 3 years old today!
A colleague, Aletha at Pearls Events linked to a wedding day emergency kit - a must have for any bride and their bridal party!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Weekly Finds: Knowledge is Power in Wedding Planning
I am LOVING the weather this week. I cannot wait for spring, flip flops and maxi dresses. I am really hope that this year we're light on rain, there are no more snow storms {yes, I've experienced them in April in NYC before} and that sunshine abounds. There's something about that vitamin D that makes me feel better :)
Some good, informative reads this week:
I've fallen for photographer Melissa Jill's blog, since she is so on the money with certain topics and I love her tone. Check out her reasons for hiring a wedding planner here and Melissa breaks the silence on the myth of the Preferred Vendor List - its a must read for anyone planning a wedding.
There's a new fabulous site for the engaged: Nearly Weds by Offbeat Bride. Be sure to check it out!
Go and enjoy the weekend!

Weekly Round Up: Wedding Advice + Images
What a week it has been and I have to say that I am none too impressed with the frigid temperatures that today has ushered in. If only we lived in warmer climates.
There are some fantastic and informative articles and posts floating around the blogosphere, read up!
Grooms are oft forgotten in the wedding planning process - but for the groom that is involved, here are some great tips on being involved.
When your sales manager at a venue stays in sales and fails to act as your wedding day coordinator - wouldn't you be upset too?
Great post on spelling out why a 'Day Of Coordinator' isn't actually a Day Of Coordinator. I personally dislike the Day Of term since its much more than that ... we call it Month Of Coordination at our office!
And finally, our good friends got married on a Yacht in the Caribbean a few months ago and we were lucky enough to attend the festivities - Table 4 Photography did an awesome job of documenting the weekend - check out the recaps here, here and here.

While I can see the beauty and artistry of tall arrangements, unless they are done to perfectly {which sadly isn't always the case}, tall arrangements to me are just cumbersome. Weekly Round Up: The Inner Workings of Wedding Photographers
I was fortunate enough to have drinks last night with Missy of Missy Photography {who is beyond fabulous} and decided that this week's round up would consist of photography articles that give more insight into Wedding Photography, so read on to be educated!
I am a firm believer in the Engagement Shoot - it gives both the couple and the photographer the chance to warm up to each other and for the photographer to become attuned to how you are in front of the camera, so that they can prepare to take incredible images of you on your wedding day. Read this by Jason Aten for more insight!
A lot of my clients are always a bit surprised to find out pricing for photographers - they seem to think that photographers show up on the wedding day, take pictures, upload them to a CD and that's it. Their job is so much more than that, read this, from the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers to gain more perspective on the inner workings of a photographer and their business.
Lastly, check out this insightful article from Seattle Metropolitan - written by photographers about their craft.
Happy Weekend - Stay Warm!

Weekly Roud Up: Fantastic Wedding Finds
With it being the start of decreasing temperatures et all, this weeks round up is full of lovely things that will chain you to your computer for ages - perfect since not many want to be outside while the temps dip low.
Firstly, I totally forgot to post this last week. A wedding that I coordinated in June was taped as the pilot episode for a new TV show called In Full Bloom, which follows the amazing Shawn Rabideau as he transforms rooms and spaces with flowers. Check out the promo clip for the show here and see me in action while I help out!
If you haven't been following along Broke Ass Bride's Wedding in a Week, you've been missing out on some awesome giveaways. So head on over here, to check out all the goodies!

A truly talented friend of mine, ABCD of ABCD Designs {Bespoke Stationary} is giving away a personal custom stationary design set to a very lucky winner in honor of her two year blog-i-versary! Her creations are simply a delight, so get yourself over to Pretty Lovely to enter in the contest. I promise, if you win, you'll be pleased as punch.

And lastly, while its a tad early to be thinking about all the upcoming holidays ... you may just want to since Paloma's Nest as added some nifty handcrafted holiday items and gifts to her etsy shop. Check them out before they are all gone!
